Soon after, recording artist and record labels and other entertainers begin to generate the idea that instead of using the same places such as New York and California to shoot videos, Miami could be the focal point. For the first time, dozens of music videos begin shooting in Miami and brought notice to even more people. People wanted to live and feel what it was like as if they were in a video. With the success of the very first Memorial Day Weekend word begin to spread to people all over the internet, the Black Beach Week Newsletters and word of mouth that Miami was the place to go for May. The very next year in 2000 over 250,000 people shocked Miami when people arrived for an all out party. Since then, the event has grown and generated plenty of events such as the Celebrity Basketball Game, reggae festival, vendor area, shopping district, pool parties and has become the ultimate beach party for the Hip Hop culture. Last year was a record setting date as over 350,000 people witnessed the event first hand. This year between 350,000 - 400,000 people will attend. What happens at the event? The actual event occurs on three streets along the popular South Beach Art Deco District. The hotels, clubs, shops,concerts and etc. all take place in one area so there isn't a need to drive anywhere to get to your destination. There are taxis within distance who can take you to any short distance areas. What type of activities happen on Memorial Day Weekend in Miami? There are plenty of things to get into during the event. There are concerts, parties, pool parties, contest, fashion shows celebrity pool parties and etc. Each year is different. How Much Does It Cost To Attend? The is an outdoor public event. There isn't a cost to attend. However, you will need enough funds for the many South Beach resteraunts along the strip. Nightclubs and shopping areas also should be within you budget. Most participants bring anywhere from $500.00 to $1,000 to cover the cost of the 3-4 day vacation. Urban Beach Week hits Miami once again and every single celebrity will be there. Let me tell you right now , that if you have never been to Miami for Memorial Day Weekend, prepare yourself for the shock of your life. This is bigger then the Superbowl. You must get to South Beach early to get a good parking spot if you are doing the car thing because parking garages fill up before noon. This is the biggest deal in South Beach during the whole year. That is cool in your own city or at the local club but we are at south beach for Urban Beach Week. The women who come to South Beach dress in Lick-um down bikinis. They do not play! Three of my girls and I stayed at the Dorchester. The rooms were nice but the service was bad. The streets or the beach was not as crowded as I expected, but that is good in a way. There is a place called the Liquor Lounge its on Collins across from Loews hotel. We shut that B/itch down 2 nights in a row. Drink and prices were great. Dont sleep on this place. The 2nd night out on the town Mims performed at Amika club and the next night at Cameo club, AI threw a party and so did Young Jeezy. The Cameo Club was jammed packed with wall to wall everything. LOL It was like a sweat box in there and the people were in line by 7 p.m. and the club didn't open until 9. The only thing I was disappointed about at the club scene was they didn't paly any Miami music. You know, like Uncle Luke, Trina, Trick Daddy, etc. I heard the same songs over and over again and I went to Miami to hear my Uncle Luke. The only time I heard his music was in the stores. I was trying to party like a Rock Star but I couldn't get no MIA music. LMAO!!! The event was cool for what it was and I make the best out of every situation. My crew connected with some Chicago Sigmas (men) from our hotel (the Dorchester Suites) and we hung out with them the entire weekend. SO we had fun but we won't be gong back next year. I must first say that I am upset to read some of the comments made about the Cameo. Maybe you guys went on the wrong night. We went when Allen Iverson, Fabolous, Hurricane and DJ Drama were there and it was the best club I’ve went to that whole weekend. We only paid $50 to get in and DJ Drama kept it live all night long. We also went to Lil Boosie’s party and it was ok expect the fact that he didn’t hit the stage until 4:30am and you could tell everyone was getting restless waiting for him. The last night that we were there we saw Busta-Rymes with his fine self getting ready to go in Cameo, no one spotted him but at first, but I did! The only thing I would change is the way the booze cruise was set up (there wasn't enough boats) and the location of the all white party (it should've been in The City because it was sooo packed in DadyO's). There is nothing in London like this, so after coming in 2006, I knew I had to be there in 2007. We stayed in a hotel on 10th and Collins, so we were right in the heart of everything. We went to the top clubs like Mansion, Opium/Prive and Cameo. I have to admit out of all the clubs Opium was the best, the DJ there played the best music, Cameo in my opinion was nothing to talk about, it just felt like a regular club night, not a special weekend night. We met RedMan; and of course took a picture with him, we also saw Diddy, when he was at Cameo and a few others. We met and connected with loads of people (something to do with our accent I think!!) people (especially men) are so surprised to see black women from the UK!!! Cons of the weekend: 1) Its a special weekend, so the prices of clubs are going to be hiked up....but if a club is going to draw ladies (E.g first 100 ladies free for club Cameo, the night Diddy was there) they need to stick to that rule and not change their minds at the last minute. 2) The security at Club Cameo were letting people in the damn line, that got me mad. Promoter didn't give a damn when we told him what happened ( some hospitality for people that came across the Atlantic to be there) 3) Wanted to see if we could meet Diddy (Cameo again), we were told NO! rudely, I just thought being that we came from so far for that special weekend, they would maybe allow us a hello and a picture, but I guess no special treatment!! We will be back in 2008, and give the weekend grade A!! I had a damn blast in Miami at Urban Beach Week! I've been to Spring Fest 06' and I went to Miami in July 06', but this was the busiest I've ever seen South Beach. Men and women from all over lined Washington and Collins Ave. The party was non-stop and the streets were packed 24hours a day. All the clubs was off the chain, except Club Suite. We waited in the line to get in from 11:30pm until 1:30pm (we are BIG fans of Jeezy and Jim Jones!) then at about 1pm, a bouncer announced that the club was raising the price of admission from 40.00 to 100.00. I complained to the point of no return and a nice lady in the front let me and my girl in for 60.00. We met and partied with Jeezy, Fabulous performed at the Mansion on Friday, and he performed at Cameo on Saturday. Carmello Anthony was at Opium on Sunday, and Lil' Wayne and Trina was at a hole in the wall club on Thursday, both rapping they hearts out to each other. I'm about 30 min driving distance from where they had that urban festival in south beach. It was an excellent festival and I strongly advise a lot of people to go if you love great restaurants,great bars & clubs,great hotels and a great crowd. I went Sat,Sun & Mon and it was packed. I went sat around 6am and i thought it would b dead and all of a sudden i said to myself "don't you people ever sleep" The party never stops in south beach. They got great hotels and the women were incredible. I talked to a few from out of town and they love it here. I had the one from Atlanta and she wants to move to Miami. I'm a people person and i love to go to News Cafe to watch people go by. When I tell you we partied the entire weekend, this is an understatement. Celebrities We saw Young Jeezy riding his motorbike on Ocean Drive. Coolest cat ever, stopped for photos and autographs. Bishop Don Juan was all pimped out in his white suit, holding his classic pimp glass on the beach, picking out women to interview in reference to "relationships", for a possible upcoming show. Although I didn't see as many celebrities as I wanted to see, still had a blast. Events/Parties We ended up in Club NiKki Beach on Sunday Night, we had our own party and table for the night, sipping on Grey Goose with some of the coolest guys from Chicago (real hypestgentlement). We also went to one of the pool parties at Hotel Victor (courtesy of my new wild and beautiful friends from Chicago, we were able to make it through the velvet rope, thanks to new ball player friends they met over the weekend)...Everyone was dancing poolside to the latest hits, as well as old school classics...Had a ball.... The Walking... Last, the walking......miles and miles of walking the strip, continuously meeting sexy, horny, intellectual, fine, big, bulky, tall, short...you name it, we met them! The rides, of cars is always exciting to watch...I have been to Urban Beach Week for the past three years, I have to say, by far...this is the best I have ever had....My legs are still killing me from all the walking.. In Conclusion This event gets an A. Although Miami Beach PD was in full force, they were pretty much enjoying the view as much as we were....Legs cramping, feet hurting, and if asked if I would do it again...YES!! I had a ball thanks to Chi-Town's finest who treated me with much love...."A Taste of Chicago" is possibly next on the agenda! It was my third time going to Miami and my first time going to the Urban Beach Week events. I had a blast with the ladies that I met on the streets from Haiti, Africa, and I met other hot ladies at the Cameo Nightclub on Washington Ave on Sunday Night from South Carolina, Chi-Town, New York, and Atlanta. Sunday Night was da bomb because of the Cash Money and Biz Markie jam that had more women than men 8 to 1 ratio. That night was blazing with music that was off da chain, I never had such a great night in a very long time. The other nights from Thursday to Saturday the line up at the clubs were not saying much, it was more guys that girls one night, other two nights it was even. Sunday was also a great day for pool parties, especially the one at Shelbourne Hotel with Fat Joe and AJ. It was off da chain with all those fine sexy babes in their bikini's doing their thing. Overall, as far as I was concerned Sunday was the best day of the Memorial Day events. The other days it was raining in the afternoon but streets were packed and busy at night unitl 5 am.The third time was a charm going to Miami, it certainly has changed over the years from the last time I went which was October of 1999. ------------------- TESTIMONIAL #3 ------------------- It was hot as hell, and it only rained for about 10 min everyday and then everything was fine (So what is everybody else talkin about).. I never made it in wet willies when we got there it was off the hook, too crowded (Im too cute for lines) I stayed at the bentley hotel(over tgi fridays on 5th and ocean blvd) That was a star studed hotel I saw everybody!!! I had lunch at fridays with Jada kiss (very cool cat), I chilled on friday night with timbalind and his crew (he was ok) Trick daddy was at our hotel we had a couple run-ins, very humble gentleman with manners and he look better in person(still ugly though). I seen jah rule (midget) allen iverson(midget) Nore, Spliff star, St Lunatics (all but nelly), benzino (his club was off da hook)and I was waitin on line to get in the club I asked this cat could I wait in his car because I dont do lines he was like ok< (they wind up being the diplomats and I didnt even know) they was givin us armadale all night (that **** was nasty). I had a F@ckin ball, If you did not have fun you was not in the right spot, My hotel was the Jump-Off..., and I all most bust my ass on them scooters too Arista (thanks for the shout out in the club). ----------------------- TESTIMONIAL #4 ----------------------- Southbeach was all that! If you missed the Memorial Day Urban Beach Week, you missed a great weekend. Police was out in force, it looked like the President was in town. This made the weekend even better. Ocean Drive was blocked off to any type of traffic, so the street was cleared for partying and partying we did!!! The US Army was there with the Motorhome. The NAACP was there with their Motorhome signing people up to vote. They were playing jams and having rap contests. The hotels was off the chain! The Clevelander was the place to watch the NBA Playoffs. The Sports Bar was filled to capacity every night. They had a MS. Perfect Body Contest a couple of days and the competition was stiff. They had tons of men and women gathered around the outdoor pool and bar watching the action. The Royal Palm had a nice pool party. It is the first Black Owned Hotel on Southbeach, so you know we had to check it out. The night life was great. There was no need to pay big money to go into the clubs, although we did receive VIP service at a few of them. There was so many people outside in the streets. At 4am you could still see well over 30,000 people on Ocean Drive, Collins Street and Washington Ave. Women, Women, Women.......DO I NEED TO SAY ANY MORE!!!! Some of the finest women were there showing all that we wanted to see. No truth be told, some women there should have dressed a little more conservatively, but hey, they felt good about themselves so why should we stop them. I took tons of pictures and video. I’ve never been or seen nothing like Miami this Memorial Day Weekend before in my life!!! It was so many beautiful people and the Stars were cool as hell. I meet Krazy Bone, Jadakiss, Ali from the St. Lunatics, Luke, Ja Rule, and Too Short. They were all cool. The streets were jammed packed. Being out there just confirmed that I got to marry me a brotha from New York. Brotha’s and Sista’s from New York were representing. The only problem was the outrages prices they were charging for drinks and food. Other then that it was all good. Over all, this past weekend was something that I will never forget. Miami was definitely the hot spot!! Everybody you wanted to see and didn't want to see was there. I went with three of my chicks, but we did our own thing (It got like that down there). Besides the clubs' outrageous prices, everthing else was cool. NY dudes definitely represented!! ------------------------- TESTIMONIAL #6 ------------------------- I'm from Detroit, the midwest is very conservative. It was so nice to be in a place where there is diversity, everybody relaxed, looking their best. I barely slept, I just drank hennessy, moet, crazy coronas, smoked bud, and met hundreds of nice guys. Our hotel, The Shelbourne was lovely and off the hook. Every hotel on Collins Ave. from 15th to 20th street was crazy. Somehow we managed to sit down and watch the playoff games. There were so many beautiful people there. I really had a great time. This was the first time that I've been to Miami and i will definately be back. I had so much fun that I booked my hotel for next year the minute I got back to New York. One thing that i can say is that the police did there thing. Coming fron NY, it was nice to be able to enjoy the parties and everything else without the trouble for nuckleheads. i took over 700 pictures and ran out several hours of video. I got there on Thursday and stayed until Tuesday. The hotels were hot, the beach was hot and even the cops were hot. (some LOL). I am very grateful that i found out about this event. I can guarantee that next year NY will definately be there in full force. I have my whold click ready to head down. It was so ice that we have already reserved room and rentals to drive while we are there. Not like you need to drive anywhere. To anyone that reads this, if you havent been to Miami on Memorial Day, you are missing the time of your life. If you want to experience new things this is the place to do it. Miami will bring the freak out of anyone and believe me when i tell you, there is eye candy for both men and women. I recommend Miami to everyone. GO, you wont be disappointed. Save your chips now, because the ladies and fellas from all over the US are ballin out of control. Everything takes place on one or two streets. Unless you like to drive up and down the street, a car is not necessary. Ok, I still don't have a way to get from the airport to Miami and I dont know anyone that meets the age requirement....What can I do? There are busses and taxi cabs who will take you to South Beach from the airport.
